Ft Myers Beach
Fort Myers Beach is a popular vacation destination in Southwest Florida.
It is only 15 minutes from the greater Fort Myers area, on the Gulf of
Mexico. Miles of gleaming white sand, broken only by an occasional sheltering
palm or stately Australian pine. The beach is famous for swimming, since
it has little or no undertow. Population: 14,000; doubles during the winter
months. The largest yearly event on this Southwest Florida island is the
Shrimp Festival. The Shrimp Festival is held each year in February. The
first official Shrimp Festival was held in 1960. Before 1960, the event
was part of the Fort Myers based Edison Festival of Light and it was called
Beach Day. An election of a Shrimp Queen, shell and flower exhibits, fishing
contests, parades and more make up the family event.
Sanibel
There are 4 beaches to enjoy on Sanibel Island. The Lighthouse Beach on
the east tip of the island, Gulfside City Park located off of Casa Ybel
Road, Tarpon Bay Road Beach located on the south end of Tarpon Bay Road
and Bowmans Beach located on the way to Captiva. There are two beaches
on Captiva. One is at Blind Pass and the other is located on the upper
end of the island. Sanibel Lighthouse - East end of Sanibel, public parking
at the beach at east end of Periwinkle Way. First lit in August 1884.
Since 1950, the U.S. Coast Guard property at the lighthouse has been a
wildlife refuge. Sanibel Island is one of the best known of the many barrier
islands of Lee County, Florida. Sanibel, which is known worldwide for
its magnificent shelling, is connected to the mainland by a three-mile-long
causeway. More than 200 varieties of shells can be found on Sanibel's
beaches, especially after extremely high or low tides. Sanibel Island
is a Southwest Florida vacation treasure.
Bonita Springs
Bonita Beach Park is located in Southwest Florida, between Fort Myers
Beach and Bonita Springs. This newly upgraded 2.5-acre beachfront part
features a boardwalk to protect the sea oats, sand dunes and coastal vegetation
surrounding a gazebo and eight picnic shelters. Free bus and trolley service.
Parking is available.
Naples
Naples Beaches comprise seven miles of pure white sand that edge the turquoise
waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Notices at access points to the beach and
beach patrol help to ensure that our Southwest Florida shores are kept
litter free and nature left untouched. Directions: Head to the beach on
Fifth Avenue South. Beach stretches north and south as far as the eye
can see. A vacation in Southwest Florida would be incomplete without taking
in these beaches. A perfect way to round off the evening is a stroll down
the Pier. The Pier symbolizes Naples and provides ideal fishing for humans,
pelicans and dolphins alike.
